Puma has collaborated with robotics, software and logistics experts to create an intelligent warehouse robot, the latest step in the race for shorter lead times from order to delivery.

The robot, dubbed TORU, is a "perception-controlled robot" which interprets its environment and makes decisions, whilst also learning to enhance functionality. It has the ability to pick a range of shapes, sizes and weights, working independently or alongside people.

A new advantage in supply chain automation, it can be used outside regular working hours (including in the dark) and is an example of the moves retailers are taking to get ahead in the ongoing sprint to offer faster, more efficient service.
