In spite of a focus on Silicon Valley for all things tech, the UK continues to produce a strong pipeline of innovative tech start-ups.

26 new names have been added to Tech City UK's Future Fifty programme.

The development of such businesses will be a key aspect of the government's modern industrial strategy.

The programme has also been a key driver of tech M&A. Of the 77 companies that have previously featured, 17 have been acquired and 5 have IPO'd. Notable alumni include Skyscanner, whose sale to China's Ctrip for £1.4 billion represents one of the highest profile global tech deals in recent times.

I look forward to tracking their progress in the coming months and years.
